  When I was a lad Wall Browns were common on chalky heathland and in some hedgerows. When I saw a flash of orange, I hoped for
  a fritillary, but it was always a Wall, the disappointing butterfly. Now they are extinct from many of their former habitats and rare in
  others, so it is never a disappointment to see one.
