Street Art in Bristol

Bristol is renowned for its street art. Some of the fame comes from Banksy and his international reputation. Banksy emerged from the 1980s graffiti scene in Bristol, but the city-wide commitment to street art was cemented by See No Evil, a week-long festival in 2011 (see Aryz, below). This event was coordinated by a group that included Inkie (also see below). The intention was to celebrate street art and attract tourists to the city. It worked on both counts, in that the 'city elders' made no subsequent efforts to remove street art, tourists came and still come to see it and the support has been consolidated by the annual Upfest festival of street art, in which many of the pictures below were painted.
